I have always had a love for the outdoors and adrenaline fuelled activities, whether that be on, off or under the water.
I love adventures and boating opens up so many opportunities for this.
In 2012 I went to Australia with the intention of being there for 6 months… I got a little carried away and came back three years later.
Whilst in Australia I worked on Moreton Island where I was part of the watersport team. We offered snorkelling, diving, parasailing, Kayaking and all sorts of other fun activities. This is where I did my first course in boating and jetskiing but in typical Aussie fashion it was incredibly laid back. They created imaginary pontoons to come along side and said “Good job mate, you’ve passed”
The travel bug continued… taking me across South America, Asia and Europe where I enjoyed teaching English as a foreign language, chalet hosting and teaching people how to swim.
In an aim to combine a job with my addiction to exploring new places.I did my STCW course which landed me a position on a private 30m Benetti yacht with a crew of seven. We spent most of the season in the Belearics.
Being hugely inspired by the female first mate on the yacht, I arrived back in the UK with all the inspiration to gain further boating qualifications.
I have since achieved the entire powerboat pathway of RYA qualifications up to commercial Skipper.
I thoroughly enjoy meeting likeminded adventurers on the powerboat courses. It is so rewarding helping students achieve their own dreams and goals as they begin their adventurous journey into the world of boating.
Along my travels I have really understood the importance of teamwork. Especially in yachting. You work long, hard hours and that is when you need everyone to work even more as a team. The support, laughter, motivation and camaraderie creates lifelong friendships and memories too.
I am always eager to learn new things. I am looking to gain the AEC engineering course to my set of boating skills. I am keen to sail around the Greek Islands and powerboat around the UK.
